Why Collecting Your PVC Is Only Step One Ahead of 2027
For years, the loudest chant echoing across Nigeria’s civic space has been a familiar chorus: “Go and get your PVC.” But as the country navigates unprecedented hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, it is time to confront an uncomfortable reality—holding a Permanent Voter Card alone will not save Nigeria.
The ruling establishment is acutely aware of the deep public anger over hyperinflation, surging energy tariffs, and grinding poverty. In an electoral climate where an incumbent government faces near-universal discontent, assuming that merely dropping a ballot into a plastic box guarantees a fair outcome is wishful thinking.

To hold PVC na only ticket to enter stadium; if you sleep for bench after buying ticket, dem go score offside declare match.
A PVC is an instrument of entry, not a shield against manipulation. If Nigerian democracy is to survive the 2027 election cycle, the collective strategy must evolve:
- The Job Starts After Thumbprinting: Casting your vote takes two minutes; staying to witness the count, demanding that results are posted publicly on Form EC8A, and ensuring polling unit numbers match electronic uploads is where the election is won or lost.
- Lawful, Peaceful Vigilance: Protecting your mandate does not mean violence; it means eyes on the box, phones documenting announcements, and community networks ensuring that compromised officials cannot alter records during transit to collation centers.
- Refusing Cynicism and Apathy: Knowing that manipulation is possible should not drive voters away from registration—it should make citizens twice as organized, twice as vocal, and unyielding in defense of the process.
Collecting your voter card is simply registration for the battle. Defending your vote peacefully, lawfully, and resolutely is what will actually decide the fate of this nation.
What Do You Think?
Is the old slogan “Go and get your PVC” outdated without a concrete plan to protect votes at the polling units? How should local communities lawfully organize to ensure that every single ballot counts in 2027?
