INEC Publishes 2027 Credentials: Tinubu’s File Still Missing Primary and Secondary School Records

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the personal details and academic credentials of all the 2027 presidential candidates and their running mates.

This public display is in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026, which strongly requires that these documents must be made available for citizens to review and scrutinize.

While many candidates submitted complete files, one major submission has once again caught the public’s attention.

The Missing Records

According to the published documents, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s file still does not contain his primary or secondary school certificates.

Just like his controversial submission during the 2023 elections, his 2027 file only includes a 1979 degree from Chicago State University (CSU). There are no attached records to show his earlier educational history, leaving a major gap in his academic trail.

Clear Records from the Opposition

When compared to the major opposition candidates, the gap in the President’s file becomes even more obvious.

• Peter Obi (NDC): The candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress submitted documents that trace a very clear and unbroken academic record. His file shows his educational journey from St. Augustine’s Primary School in 1973, through Christ the King College in 1978, all the way to his graduation from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1984.
• Atiku Abubakar (ADC): The African Democratic Congress candidate also submitted a full educational trail. His records date as far back as his First School Leaving Certificate in 1954 and end with a Master’s degree obtained in 2020.

Questions That Remain

What stands out the most to political watchers is that this is not a one-time mistake. These are the exact same missing records from the 2023 election, now showing up again for 2027.

Many critics are pointing out that if there was a simple explanation for the missing primary and secondary school certificates, the years between 2023 and 2026 would have been more than enough time for the administration to provide one.
