The Convenient Memory of Adams Oshiomhole

There was a time when the mere mention of a ₦3 fuel hike brought Adams Oshiomhole out in his trademark khaki, leading nationwide strikes that grounded the economy. As President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), he positioned himself as the ultimate defender of the masses against anti-people policies.

Today, seated comfortably in the corridors of power as an All Progressives Congress (APC) senator, Oshiomhole is singing an entirely different tune.

During a heated television appearance, as reported by Parallel Facts on Oshiomhole’s clash with an interviewer, the former labour leader lost his cool when confronted with his own past. Asked why he shut down the country over minimal increases under the Obasanjo administration but now defends petrol soaring past ₦1,400 under President Bola Tinubu, Oshiomhole deflected, attacked the interviewer, and boasted about his battles with military dictators.

When you dey outside power, ₦3 increase na oppression; but once you enter government house, ₦1,400 petrol turn to “economic reform.”

Boasting about past battles against military juntas does not put food on the table for families currently crushed by hyperinflation, exorbitant bus fares, and collapsing small businesses. Fighting the establishment from the outside is easy; the real test of character is whether your principles survive when you become the establishment.

If yesterday’s fuel increase of a few Naira justified shutting down the nation, why does today’s crippling hike deserve your defense?

Over to you, Senator Oshiomhole.

What Do You Think?

Did Adams Oshiomhole abandon his pro-masses principles for establishment convenience, or are today’s economic realities genuinely different from his NLC days?
