Kaigama, who stepped in as a voluntary mediator to secure their release, explained that he spent weeks communicating directly with the terrorists. He was the one who instructed them to make the proof-of-life videos that circulated online to show that the captives were still alive.
After weeks of tense negotiations, a massive ransom was agreed upon.
The Missing ₦3.1 Billion
According to Kaigama, a staggering ₦5 Billion was officially released by the government to pay the ransom and secure the freedom of the 416 women and children.
However, what happened next exposes the absolute evil of those handling the nation’s security.
Kaigama revealed that after the captives were released, the terrorists complained to him directly. They confirmed that out of the ₦5 Billion released by the government, they only received ₦1.9 Billion.

The “In-House” Middlemen and Corrupt Politicians
Kaigama did not hold back. He pointed fingers directly at the middlemen and political figures involved in the negotiation process.
According to his claims, the government used an “in-house mediator”—a media person allegedly connected to Senator Ali Ndume (the Senator representing Borno South). Kaigama stated clearly that the kidnappers were told by this mediator that the money must pass only through him.
By the time the ransom reached the deep forest, ₦3.1 Billion had completely vanished into the pockets of the middlemen and the politicians sponsoring them.
“Insecurity is a Business”
During the interview, Kaigama made sure to clear the name of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the President is innocent and unaware of these dirty local schemes.
Instead, he placed the blame squarely on state government officials and local political actors who are orchestrating these crises. According to Kaigama, these officials are intentionally keeping the insurgency alive because they are “making money out of this whole insecurity stuff.”
