Dickson’s Legislative Acumen: Contributing to Constitutional Reform

Henry Seriake Dickson’s impressive legislative record includes his critical work on the Constitution Alteration Bill of 2010. This bill was part of a broader wave of constitutional and electoral reform efforts that he actively contributed to during that period.

His dedicated work fed directly into major amendments of both the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act. For instance, the 2010 constitutional alteration successfully provided financial independence for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Assembly by ensuring their funds were paid directly from the Consolidated Revenue Fund. At the same time, the Electoral Act of 2010 established a much stronger legal framework to regulate the conduct of Federal, State, and Area Council Elections across Nigeria.

By pushing these important reforms forward, Dickson helped lay a solid legal groundwork. Today, that exact foundation continues to shape and define Nigeria’s entire legal and electoral framework.
