Osun Election Crisis: Reps Minority Caucus Accuses Tinubu of Intimidating State Government

The House of Representatives Minority Caucus has raised a serious alarm ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State. The group is accusing President Bola Tinubu of using federal agencies to bully and intimidate the Osun State Government.

According to the lawmakers, these actions threaten the peace and fairness of the upcoming election.

Major Complaints by the Lawmakers

The caucus pointed to three major events that they believe show an unfair use of federal power:

• Freezing State Accounts: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently froze a bank account belonging to the Osun State Government.
• Arresting Top Officials: The Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, was arrested.
• Local Government Pressure: There is reported pressure on the local government administration in the state.

A Warning for 2027

The lawmakers are not just worried about Osun State. They warned that these recent events could be a “dress rehearsal” for the 2027 general elections. They fear that if federal power is used to control state elections now, it will happen on a much larger scale later.

A Call for a Fair Election

To prevent further trouble, the Minority Caucus urged the Federal Government and all security agencies to step back. They clearly asked the government to guarantee a free, fair, and peaceful election in Osun State on August 15.
