APC Senator Monguno Attacks Tinubu’s Government Over N1.7 Trillion & Unfunded Security

There is currently a massive crack inside the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In a bold and surprising move, an APC lawmaker, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government of breaking the law. He stated clearly that the government’s failure to do its job is a serious offence that can get the President impeached before his tenure ends in 2027.
This heavy clash happened at the National Assembly during a face-to-face meeting between Senator Monguno (Borno North) and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele.
What makes this exchange so powerful is that the heavy charges did not come from the opposition. They came directly from a fearless Senator within the President’s own party.
The 2025 Budget Failure
Senator Monguno told the Minister straight to his face that failing to implement the 2025 budget is a complete breach of the law. He expressed deep anger that the National Assembly was forced to push 70 percent of the 2025 budget into the year 2026 simply because the executive branch failed to execute its own spending plan.
The lawmakers had earlier agreed that at least 30 percent of the budget would be spent before March, but the government missed that target completely.
“If the budget, for example, 2025 budget, has not been implemented and we have to roll over 70 percent of 2025 to 2026, and that we promised that 30 percent will be implemented before March. Up to March, even 30 percent was not implemented.” — Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno
According to the Senator, the budget is not just about numbers on a paper. It is the only way the government can bring the true benefits of democracy to the people.
Zero Funding for Security Agencies
The Senator also touched on the most painful issue in the country today: security. He revealed a shocking truth about how the government handles the safety of its citizens.
Despite the worsening kidnappings and attacks reported every day across Nigeria, Monguno revealed that all the top security agencies told the Senate they have received zero allocation for their capital needs.
This means the agencies expected to protect the lives and properties of citizens are getting absolutely nothing for their equipment, infrastructure, and field operations.
The “Missing” N1.7 Trillion Oil Fund
Senator Monguno did not stop there. He went further to question how the government is managing the money coming from crude oil sales.
He pointed to the Federation Account receipts for last month and made the following claims:
- A massive N3.7 trillion was received as revenue.
- Only N2 trillion was shared to the federal, state, and local governments.
- Exactly N1.7 trillion was retained by the government without a clear reason.
He boldly demanded to know where that massive amount of money is secretly going.
“Where are these monies going to? This is my question. Why is budget not implemented? Because it is a breach of the Law and it is an impeachable offence.”
