Obi to Nigerians: Credible 2027 Elections Depend on You, Not Just INEC

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has a strong message for citizens ahead of the 2027 elections. He stressed that ensuring a free and fair vote is the duty of the people, not just the electoral body.

Obi shared these thoughts while speaking to journalists on Friday. He was attending the burial of Pa Simon Okorie Abaa, the father of Chief Linus Okorie, the NDC senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South.

The Power of the Voters

Many Nigerians have expressed deep doubts about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, Obi pointed out that the real power remains with the voters.

He made it clear that the focus should shift from trusting the system to trusting the citizens.

“It is not about confidence in INEC. Do I still have confidence in the people? Because it is the people that will determine what INEC will do,” Obi said. “If the people insist that their votes will count, their votes will count.”

A Shared Economic Hardship

Beyond the upcoming elections, Obi also spoke about the severe economic struggles facing the country today. He noted that the current hardship does not care about political parties. It is a form of daily harassment that affects every single Nigerian, not just his own supporters.

Because the situation has become so difficult, he urged citizens to take a step back and honestly look at the direction the nation is heading.

The Ultimate Sacrifice

Looking toward the future, Obi asked Nigerians to think deeply about what the current economic path means for the next generation.

He described the push for real change in today’s harsh climate as making “the ultimate sacrifice.” According to him, standing up to demand a better country is hard work, but it is deeply necessary to secure a brighter future for all.
