Osun Election: Adeleke’s Wife Leads Women’s Protest Against Alleged Political Intimidation
With just days to go before the August 15 Osun State governorship election, political tensions in the state have reached a boiling point. In a dramatic show of demonstration, the wife of the Osun State Governor, Titilola Adeleke, led hundreds of women through the streets of Osogbo to condemn what they described as systematic political intimidation, harassment, and targeted arrests.
A March to the Police Command
The protest brought together hundreds of women—including market traders, artisan groups, and state officials such as the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ayobola Awolowo. The group marched through Osogbo toward the Osun State Police Command along the West Bypass.
Carrying placards demanding peace and fair play, the protesters called for an immediate end to high-handed actions targeting political opponents in the final countdown to the election.
Key Demands Raised by the Protesters
Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, Titilola Adeleke expressed deep concern over the safety of citizens and local leaders in the state:
- Halt to Arbitrary Arrests: The First Lady voiced outrage over recent detentions of political figures, urging security agencies to stop indiscriminate arrests ahead of the ballot.
- Guaranteed Voter Safety: She called on law enforcement to protect all residents equally so that voters can exercise their democratic rights without fear of intimidation or violence.
- Protection for Families: Highlighting the human cost of political clashes, she urged authorities to question those inciting violence and maintain peace across Osun communities.
Police Assurance of Neutrality
Upon arriving at the security perimeter of the police command, the protesters were met by the Commissioner of Police in charge of election matters, CP Samuel Etaifo.
After receiving a formal letter of demands from the Governor’s wife, CP Etaifo assured the crowd that law enforcement would remain completely neutral. He promised that the police command is working to address security concerns and will ensure a safe, peaceful, and credible election process for all citizens on August 15
