“The DSS Works for Nigerians, Not the President” — Omoyele Sowore Blows Hot After Court Hearing

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has sent a very strong message to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the current government.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday shortly after his ongoing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the human rights activist stated clearly that the DSS is a public institution funded by Nigerians, not a private security team for President Bola Tinubu.

The True Role of the Secret Police

Sowore was very bold about the constitutional role of the DSS. He explained that a major point established during the court proceedings was who the secret police actually work for.

“One thing was also established today in court. That the DSS is employed by Nigerian people. It is not the private security guard organization of anybody. DSS is not the guard of the president. But they don’t get that memo yet.” — Omoyele Sowore

He urged Nigerians to keep challenging officials who abuse state power, adding that the citizens must stand up today to secure a better tomorrow.

An Economy on the Edge of Collapse

Sowore did not hold back when criticizing the current administration’s economic policies. He argued that the present state of the nation shows a system that is quickly failing.

Using everyday street terms, he mocked the government’s approach to fixing the economy:

“Any regime that you see that starts picking kulikuli, agbado and akara as their economic policy, you know that regime is on the way out… We owe them a duty to get them out of our way so that this country can breathe.”

He stressed that the country needs a working economy, not a system operating “three fake budgets at the same time.” He also stated that true human rights will only happen when the poor are allowed to breathe.

Standing With Victims of Political Oppression

During his address, Sowore introduced his friend and fellow activist, Haruna Gololo, describing him as a direct victim of state abuse.

• The Cost of Truth: According to Sowore, Gololo was sent to prison simply for telling the truth about the Senate President. In the same way, Sowore noted that he is facing persecution for telling the truth about the President.
• The Fear of the Grassroots: Sowore praised Gololo, noting that the government fears him because he can connect directly with the masses by speaking fluently in both English and Hausa.

Despite the trials, Sowore said he remains the “happiest person” to be punished for speaking truth to power if it brings a fresh lease of life to the country.

A Strong Message to the Press and the People

Sowore finished his address by calling out some compromised journalists. He accused a section of the media of simply copying and pasting reports supplied by the DSS instead of reporting the actual court proceedings. He advised them to search their conscience, noting that many media bosses are being controlled by the very people using state resources to oppress citizens.

He then urged Nigerians not to be afraid. He invited the public to attend the next court hearing on Tuesday, warning that oppression will only survive if citizens decide to tolerate it.

He signed off with his popular slogan: “Revolution now!”
