NDC Accuses APC, ADC of Sponsoring Aggrieved Aspirants

The newly formed National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of fueling internal discord within its ranks by allegedly sponsoring aggrieved aspirants from its recently concluded primary elections.

Addressing the media on Friday, the NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, alleged that rival political parties are actively exploiting the fallout of the primaries to destabilize the nascent opposition party.

“We urge party loyalists and the general public to view the current unrest as the natural ‘growing pains’ of a political organization that is barely three months old.”Osa Director, NDC National Publicity Secretary

Navigating Early Challenges

Director noted that despite its recent formation, the NDC has successfully navigated its registration, organized national conventions, and conducted primary elections nationwide. Defending the integrity of the exercises, he maintained that the primaries were executed strictly in accordance with the party’s constitution and internal guidelines, dismissing claims of systemic irregularities raised by defeated aspirants.

Faulting the Electoral Act on Direct Primaries

Taking a swipe at the nation’s broader electoral framework, the NDC spokesman heavily criticized the Electoral Act’s provisions regarding direct primaries.

Key concerns raised include:

  • Verification Issues: The current system makes it nearly impossible to accurately verify the true party membership of voters at the grassroots level.
  • Vulnerability to Sabotage: This loophole leaves the entire primary election process highly vulnerable to hijack, infiltration, and manipulation by external political actors.

Editor’s Note: As of the time of filing this report, neither the leadership of the APC nor the ADC has officially reacted to the allegations of political interference leveled against them by the NDC.
