Osun Lawmaker Demands Senator Fadahunsi’s Resignation Over “Inciting” Comments
Political tensions in Osun State have taken a sharp turn as a local lawmaker demands the immediate resignation of Senator Francis Fadahunsi. Kanmi Ajibola, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly, has issued a 30 day ultimatum to the Senator representing Osun East, accusing him of making comments that could spark violence.
The Core of the Conflict
Hon. Kanmi Ajibola, who represents the Oriade State Constituency, is furious over statements allegedly made by Senator Fadahunsi ahead of the recent Osun governorship election. Ajibola, who is also a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Ilesa, claims the Senator directed his supporters to attack or “kill” members of the rival Accord Party in Ilesa.
In response to the growing outrage, Senator Fadahunsi has denied the accusations, stating that his words were completely taken out of context. However, Ajibola strongly argues that this explanation is simply not enough given the severe danger the words pose to public safety.
A Legal Ultimatum
Ajibola did not just stop at calling the Senator out; he took formal action. He issued the 30-day resignation notice through his lawyer.
To ensure the seriousness of his demand was noted at the highest levels, Ajibola also reportedly sent copies of this letter to:
- President Bola Tinubu
- Senate President Godswill Akpabio
Ajibola has made it clear that if Fadahunsi does not step down from his position as a federal lawmaker within the 30-day timeframe, he will be met with immediate legal action.
A Call for Peaceful Politics
The Osun lawmaker emphasized that elected officials have a duty to maintain peace. According to Ajibola, leaders should be promoting calm, democratic engagement, rather than issuing statements that can provoke hostility, fear, or actual violence among the people.
He further argued that by allegedly making these inciting remarks, Senator Fadahunsi has broken the trust of the public. Because of this, Ajibola believes the Senator is no longer fit to hold his current office or seek any future public positions.
